Darktide Hive Scum Class Review: Fun and Chaotic
Generally, I wasnt expecting much from the new Darktide class, but they totally surprised me. Obviously, the announcement of a new class got me hyped, and i was thinking maybe we would get somethin like a skitarii cyborg or a ratling, but nope, we got the hive scum instead. Basically, at first glance, the hive scum seems like a pretty underwhelming character, but trust me, they are alot of fun to play.
Normally, id be pretty disappointed if i was expecting a powerful Sister of Battle and got a normal drug addict instead, but the hive scum is actually really cool. Usually, after leveling up a new character, i get bored pretty quickly, but the hive scum is different, its incredibly fun to play.
Naturally, one of the standout features of the hive scum is the ability to dual-wield pistols, which makes crowd control a breeze, and the Desperado ability is just insane, it lets you reload for free and dodge ranged fire, which is pretty awesome. Often, i find myself tryin to find more enemies to shoot before the ability runs out, even if it means separatin from the team, which can be pretty risky.
Fortunately, the hive scum also has a stimm lab, which is like a separate upgrade tree that lets you customize buffs from a portable chemistry set, and i filled mine with toughness-healing and attack speed boosts, which is pretty useful. Occasionally, i drop a healing station that explodes when the effect wears off, and it adds a touch of chaos to the gameplay, which is pretty cool.
Mostly, the class’s melee weapons, like a crowbar and bonesaw, seem pretty basic, but they fit the hive scum’s role as a glass cannon, and while other classes are more tank-like, the hive scum offers high damage potential at the cost of fragility, which is a pretty interesting playstyle.
Hopefully, the new narrative campaign will be just as fun, and it seems like it will be, the first mission involves fightin across a train, which is reminiscent of Necromunda: Hired Gun, and the final mission is a sprint through WWI trenches under artillery fire, which sounds pretty intense.
Honestly, i think the hive scum is a great addition to Darktide, and it brings a unique playstyle to the game, and overall, while it might not be what everyone expected, its a fun and chaotic character that i really enjoy playin.
Personally, i think you should give the hive scum a try, and see what you think, you might be surprised at how much fun it is to play, and the new narrative campaign is definitely worth checkin out, it seems like Darktide is in a good place right now.
Usually, i dont get too excited about new classes or characters, but the hive scum is definitely an exception, and i think you will really enjoy playin it, so go ahead and give it a try, you wont regret it.
