Rhea Seehorn’s First Major Role Was in a 1997 Magic: The Gathering Game
Rhea Seehorn, a talented actress celebrated for her roles in Pluribus and Better Call Saul, started her acting career with an interesting role as the tutorial sorceress in the 1997 PC game Magic: The Gathering. This distinctive role has now become one of her most notable achievements before she gained mainstream recognition. Rhea’s acting career has seen her portray characters in various different settings and eras, but her work in the 1997 PC game takes the cake when it comes to its quirkiness and charm.
Guiding Players Through Shandalar
Some people might not know that Rhea took on the role of guiding players through the tutorial of Shandalar, a Magic: The Gathering game, a long time ago. Before her acting career, she decided to work on Shandalar, a Magic: The Gathering game created by Microprose, where players could battle magic users and build up their decks. Rhea started acting early in life and soon enough, she took on the role of a guiding figure in Shandalar. She began working on projects as soon as she could and one of her first major roles was as the tutorial sorceress in Shandalar. Her dedication and love for acting led her to do the voiceover for the tutorial videos in Shandalar.
Cheesy ’90s PC Game Charm
I found it quite fascinating when I stumbled upon Rhea’s tutorial videos in Shandalar on YouTube. Now, people can still see her cheesy and fascinating “90s” PC-game fantasy character, complete with primitive CG backgrounds. When I played Shandalar, I remember thinking it was just one of those cheesy old games but it was the charm that got me hooked. Seeing Rhea deliver instructions with such commitment and dedication still gives me a chuckle and makes me want to play it all over again.
A Low-Budget Production Story
When Rhea gave an interview to NPR, she recounted a funny story about her experience filming Shandalar. Rhea stated that she wore electrical tape wrapped around tube socks to pretend to be a gladiator-sorcerer in the game. The budget for Shandalar was extremely low and the lack of proper equipment gave Rhea a lot of amusement. I must admit that her determination to make it as an actress shows through her story, and she still manages to tell this hilarious anecdote which adds to the magic of Shandalar.
