Comcept Studio Shuts Down: Mighty No. 9 Legacy Ends
Generally, I Think Comcept’s Story Is Pretty Interesting. Usually, I Would Say They Had A Good Run, But Honestly, It Was Mostly Downhill. Naturally, People Were Excited When They First Heard About Comcept Back In 2010, But It Wasn’t Until 2013 That They Really Got Popular. Obviously, Their Kickstarter For Mighty No. 9 Was A Huge Success, Raising Over $4 Million.
A Promising Start Turned Sour
Apparently, The Team At Comcept Was Not Prepared For The Amount Of Attention They Received. Normally, You Would Expect A Team To Be Ready For This Kind Of Success, But Comcept Seemed To Struggle. Eventually, Delays Started Piling Up, And The Game Was Pushed Back From 2015 To 2016. Usually, This Kind Of Delay Would Not Be A Big Deal, But In This Case, It Seemed To Kill The Hype Surrounding The Game.
A Studio’s Downward Spiral
Basically, After The Failure Of Mighty No. 9, Comcept Tried To Bounce Back With A New Kickstarter For Red Ash In 2015. Unfortunately, This Campaign Did Not Go Well, And The Studio Was Left Wondering What To Do Next. Naturally, Fans Were Upset, And Some Even Questioned Why The Studio Was Chasing A New Project Before Fixing The Old One. Generally, This Is A Good Question, And It Is One That Comcept Never Really Answered.
A Brief Revival and Final Collapse
Interestingly, Comcept Teamed Up With Level-5 In 2017, Forming Level-5 Comcept. Apparently, This Partnership Was Meant To Give Keiji Inafune A Stable Home, And To Leverage Level-5’s Resources. Usually, This Kind Of Partnership Would Be A Good Thing, But In This Case, It Did Not Seem To Work Out. Eventually, Inafune Left In 2024, And The Studio Was Folded Into Level-5’s Osaka Office.
The Legacy of Comcept: A Cautionary Tale
Obviously, Comcept’s Story Is A Cautionary Tale About The Risks Of Crowdfunding. Generally, Fans Learn The Hard Way That Big Promises Do Not Always Translate To Solid Games. Normally, You Would Expect A Studio To Deliver On Their Promises, But Comcept Failed To Do So. Usually, This Kind Of Failure Would Be A Lesson For Other Studios, But It Is Not Clear If Anyone Has Learned From Comcept’s Mistakes.
Final Thoughts
Generally, The End Of Comcept Is Not A Surprise To Anyone Who Followed The Saga. Apparently, It Is Just The End Of A Long, Disappointing Book. Usually, You Would Expect A Studio To Go Out With A Bang, But Comcept Just Seemed To Fizzle Out. Naturally, Gaming Will Keep Moving Forward, And New Stories Will Always Rise From The Ashes Of The Old. Eventually, We Will Forget About Comcept, And Move On To The Next Big Thing.
