Genshin Wiki Operator Sued Over Datamining, What This Means

Obviously, the developer behind Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, now called Cognosphere, has filed a lawsuit against the HomDGCat fan-wiki operator, which is pretty big news. Naturally, the suit says the wiki founder, Jianuo “HomDGCat” Zhou, kept digging up secret game data and posting it, sparking a fresh clash in the ongoing leak war, and that’s a pretty serious accusation. Usually, you would think that the wiki founder would be more careful, but Apparently, that was not the case.

Apparently, Cognosphere claims Zhou ran a big campaign to grab and share unreleased assets from both titles, which is a pretty bold move. Clearly, court papers say the wiki asked beta testers to break their NDAs, promising to give beta download links if they sent files that could be mined, and that’s a clear violation of the rules. Obviously, one screenshot in the filing even reads, “If you are in Genshin Impact beta or Star Rail beta, and would like to provide files to assist me in my datamining and research, you are welcome to message me… I will not know your identity and will not leak the links you give me to anyone else”, which is a pretty obvious attempt to get around the rules.

Generally, between September 2023 and December 2025, Zhou supposedly posted thousands of unreleased pieces, like character art, dialogue, in-game text, on the HomDGCat wiki, which is a lot of sensitive information. Naturally, Cognosphere says that not only broke copyright, it also hurt their marketing, letting rivals peek at secret roadmaps, and that’s a pretty big deal. Usually, you would think that the wiki founder would be more careful, but Apparently, they just kept on posting, and that’s what led to the lawsuit.
