Dino Crisis & Dino Crisis 2 Hit Steam Sales for $5 – New DRM Included

Dino Crisis Duo Launches on Steam for $5, But Brings Enigma DRM

What’s the deal?

Generally, I am really excited to see Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 on Steam, it’s like a dream come true. Normally, I would pay more for these games, but they are only five bucks each, which is a great price. Obviously, there is a catch, and that catch is the Enigma DRM, which can be a bit of a pain. Usually, I dont mind this kind of thing, but sometimes it can be annoying.

DRM and the “Chack Registry” glitch

Apparently, the Enigma Protector has a mixed reputation, some people like it, and some people dont. Naturally, I was a bit worried when I saw the “Chack Registry” prompt, it looked like a typo to me. Probably, the prompt is just a small issue, but it can be frustrating. Sometimes, the Enigma Protector can crash the game, like it did with my Resident Evil Revelations, which is not good.

Modding work‑around

Fortunately, there is a mod called Classic REbirth that can bypass the Enigma shield on modern PCs, which is great news. Usually, I am not a big fan of installing mods myself, but in this case, it’s worth it. Obviously, the mod community for Dino Crisis is not huge, but it’s there if you need it, which is good to know. Generally, the mod can help with performance issues and crashes caused by the DRM.

Price, achievements, and platform support

Normally, games like this would cost twenty plus dollars, but these are only five bucks each, which is a steal. Apparently, the downside is that there are no Steam achievements, which some players care about. Usually, I dont mind this, but some people might be disappointed. Probably, the fact that the games are Steam Deck ready is a big plus, which is great for players who want to play on the go.

Bottom line

In short, Capcom finally released the classic Dino Crisis games on Steam, which is great news for fans. Generally, the price is good, and the games are worth buying, even with the Enigma DRM. Obviously, you gotta be ready for the “Chack Registry” prompt and no achievements, but if you love retro horror, it’s worth it. Probably, the games will run smoothly, but if you encounter issues, the Classic REbirth mod can help.
