Boltgun 2 Adds Slaaneh – Warhammer’s Hedonistic Chaos God Gets Game Spotlight

Generally, I think Boltgun 2 is going to be a really cool game. Obviously, the upcoming FPS reveals Slaanesh’s daemonettes and Emperor’s Children, which is a big deal for fans of Warhammer. Usually, games dont focus on Slaanesh, but this one does, and it’s coming out in 2024.

A quick look back at Chaos in games

Normally, Nurgle shows up alot in shooters, you see him in Warhammer: Vermintide 2, Darktide, and Chaos Gate: Daemonhunters. Sometimes, Khorne’s blood-thirsty warriors and Tzeentch’s sorcerous minions are there too, but Slaanesh mostly stays in the shadows, thats why it’s interesting that Boltgun 2 is featuring him. Even Total War: Warhammer gave him a bigger role, yet no FPS has focused on his followers, until now, which is pretty exciting.

What the trailer reveals

Honestly, the new video opens with a swirl of violet afterimages, daemonettes darting so fast they leave purple light trails, it’s pretty cool. Then it cuts to the Emperor’s Children legion, flaunting gaudy armor and ostentatious insignia, hinting at “noise-marines” that could be wailing electric guitars, which sounds like alot of fun. Obviously, the soundtrack’s psychedelic vibe suggests more than just visual fan service, it’s like they’re trying to create a certain atmosphere.

Dual-protagonist campaign

Usually, single-player modes are pretty basic, but Boltgun 2 is expanding its single-player mode with two playable characters, which is a nice touch. Veteran Ultramarine Malum Caedo returns, brutal as ever, and he’s paired with Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath, a devout Adepta Sororitas, their partnership lets you branch the narrative, tackling missions from a Space Marine or an Imperial Inquisitor viewpoint, which could be pretty interesting.

Release details

Generally, the sequel is slated for a later-2024 launch on Steam, Devolver Digital handling publishing, which is good to know. No exact date announced yet, but the trailer shows a polished, fast-paced shooter that stays true to Warhammer’s brutal aesthetic while finally giving Slaanesh the attention he deserves, so thats something to look forward to.

Why Slaanesh matters

Obviously, Slaanesh stands for excess, gluttony, hedonism, unbridled pleasure, which is a pretty unique aspect of the Warhammer universe. Sometimes, devs shy away from him because of his reputation, but by featuring his daemonettes and the Emperor’s Children, Boltgun 2 is embracing the full chaos spectrum, giving fans a more daring experience, which is pretty cool. Usually, games dont take risks like this, but it looks like Boltgun 2 is going to be different.
