Introduction

Generally, I’m writing about Epic Games’ latest overhaul of Fortnite’s Chapter 7 loot pool and I think it’s a turning point for battle-royale, because now the game feels more fair and deadly. Obviously, they made some big changes, they beefed up SMGs, tweaked rifles, and tossed in new mobility gear, which is pretty cool. Usually, I play with a team, but now I can play solo and still have a chance to win, which is awesome.

What Changed

SMG Revamp

Apparently, the biggest shift I noticed is the SMG line got a serious refresh, they retired the old Dual Micro SMGs, which were fast but weak. Normally, I wouldn’t use SMGs, but now the Holo and Flex SMGs are on the front page, and they’re actually pretty good. Now, the Holo SMG shoots over 200 DPS, and its built-in optic finally makes sense for close-to-mid fights, which is a big deal. Sometimes, the Flex SMG feels a bit rougher, but its hip-fire rush and slower burst when you aim down sights give me options in building wars, which is nice.

New Assault Rifles

Currently, Chapter 7 also dropped the MK-seven, a red-dot rifle that tries to take the throne from the long-ruling Deadeye, and it’s a game-changer. Obviously, it packs more damage per shot, yet its recoil is louder than I’d like, so you gotta balance precision with power, which can be tricky. Usually, I prefer the Deadeye, but now the MK-seven is a strong contender, which is great for the game.

Rebalanced Existing Weapons

Generally, I saw small tweaks on the tactical pistol and tactical assault rifle that close the gap between the elite S-tier guns and the rest, which is a good thing. Now, the Deadeye isn’t the only king, because the newly empowered SMGs and MK-seven share the spotlight, and it’s more fun to play. Sometimes, I feel like the game is more balanced, and that’s a good feeling, because I can play with different guns and still have a chance to win.

Mobility Items

Apparently, Epic added three movement-centric toys: the zero-gravity Flowberry, the champagne-spray Fizz, and the Mist Grenade, which are all pretty cool. Usually, I don’t use mobility items, but now they reward aggressive, fast-paced play, and let you zip around the map, making SMGs even more lethal, which is awesome. Now, I can play more aggressively, and that’s a lot of fun, because I can outmaneuver my opponents.

The Persistent Issue: Lock-On Assault Rifle

Obviously, one outlier still bugs me – the lock-on assault rifle, it auto-targets and fires a three-round burst, which feels too strong when you pair it with shockwave jumps, and that’s a problem. Sometimes, skilled players get frustrated, because the weapon feels overpowered, and that’s not good for the game, because it’s not fair.

How the New Balance Affects Loadouts

Generally, now I can build three-weapon loadouts that actually feel diverse, and that’s a good thing, because I can play with different guns and still have a chance to win. Usually, I grab an SMG for close fights, a sniper for long shots, and a utility like the wing-suit or shockwave for quick repositioning, and that’s a good mix. Now, this mix pushes me to play tactically instead of relying on a single dominant gun, which is more fun, because I have to think more.

Conclusion

Apparently, Fortnite Chapter 7’s loot pool overhaul shows how smart weapon tweaks and mobility incentives can make a battle-royale healthier and more dynamic, which is a good thing. Obviously, the lock-on rifle still feels out of place, but the overall move toward balance, lethality, and flexibility sets a strong standard for future updates, and that’s exciting, because I want to see what’s next. Usually, I’m not sure what to expect from updates, but now I’m hopeful, because the game is getting better.
