Slay the Spire 2 Co-op Guide: How 4-Player Multiplayer Works

How Slay the Spire 2’s 4-Player Co‑op Multiplayer Works

Overview

I played the brand new 4-player mode in Slay the Spire 2 and it is very fun. You get to climb the big tower with three other people now. I noticed that every person gets their own deck of cards to use. You make your own choices during the whole run. The game still feel like the first one but with more friends.

Setting Up Multiplayer

You go to the main menu first and click the button for Host Lobby. I invited my buddies through the Steam list. You have to be friends with the host because there is no way to find strangers. Everyone pick their hero after the lobby starts. You can all play as the same character if you want. No rules exist to stop you from picking four Ironclads.

Gameplay Mechanics

Each person has their own health bar and energy to spend. I saw that the monsters attack the whole group at once. Enemies get much stronger when you have more people on your team. You manage your own cards and watch what your friends do. Everyone have to click the end turn button before the round stops.

If your friend dies in a fight, they come back when the battle ends. You must win the fight to save them though. There is no permanent death in this game mode. I think this makes the run feel much easier than playing by yourself. You can take more risks because your team helps you stay alive.

Map and Events

The group move together on the map screen. You can still pick different things to do when you hit an event. I might take a nap at the campfire while my friend fixes a card. Shops show different items for every single player. When you find a treasure chest, you each get to pick a prize for yourself. If two people want the same relic, the game roll the dice to see who gets it.

Campfire & Co‑op Cards

I found a new button called Mend when I rested at the fire. This choice let you heal a friend for 30 percent of their health. I suggest you use this before you fight a big boss. The makers added special cards that help the whole team work better. One card called Synergy Strike does more damage if your friend played a skill first. You should look for these cards to win faster.

Saves & Session Rules

The host keep all the save data on their own account. Only one group game can exist at a time for you. I found out that new people cannot join in the middle of a run. You all have to start at the beginning together. If someone leaves the game, you have to stop and connect again. To start a new game, you must delete your old save file first.

Ascension System

Ascension levels work a bit different when you play with friends. The game look at the player with the lowest level to set the difficulty. You still earn your own progress as you play. When you get a new level, it works for all your heroes in the group mode. This makes the game harder as you get better at it.

Future Plans

You cannot play on one couch yet. I heard the team might add that later on. Online play is the only way to go right now. I bet they will add more stuff while the game is still new. You should keep an eye on the updates for more news.

Conclusion

I think this mode is a big step for the game. It lets you build your deck and help your friends at once. The climb up the Spire is very wild and fun. You should grab some friends and go play right now. See how high you can go together before you lose.
