Artemis II Lunar Mission and Orion Space Toilet Explained

Artemis II Astronauts Prepare for Lunar Mission and Life with Orion’s Space Toilet

I am going to show you how the crew survives in a tiny room while they fly around the moon for ten days.

Mission Overview

I put four people on a giant rocket to see the moon up close. You will see Reid, Victor, Christina, and Jeremy fly in the Orion ship that we built. This trip is the first time since 1972 that we send a crew so far from home. Your heart will beat fast when the SLS rocket leaves the ground in Florida. The ship flies 5,000 miles above the moon so the crew can see the dirt and rocks. We make sure every part of the plan works perfect for them.

A Space Toilet with a Door

I hear many people ask how someone can go to the potty when there is no gravity. Jeremy says he is glad that the bathroom has a door to hide behind. You need a little bit of quiet time when you live in a small box for a week. Privacy helps your mind stay strong while you float 240,000 miles away. I think having a door is a very smart way to keep the crew happy.

How the System Works

I use a vacuum to pull the pee away so it does not fly around your face. We put the solid waste in a bag and then we squish it into a can. You have to take the old cans out and put new ones in during the trip. My ship shoots the liquid waste out into the dark space. We do not clean the pee to drink it because our mission is very short. I keep the tools simple so nothing breaks when you are far away.

Mission Timeline and Live Coverage

I want you to watch the live show on the computer when we start the engines. My schedule says the big talk starts before we fly on April 1. You can see every check we do inside the cabin on your screen. Fans will hear the engines roar and see the fire during the launch. I invite you to join us for every step of this big walk in the sky.

Beyond Artemis II

I am also testing a fake Mars house where people stay for one whole year. You should look at the new Starship because it will take us even further soon. These tests show that I can solve hard problems to keep you safe in the stars. Every toilet and every orbit helps us learn how to live on new worlds. We are all dreaming about the moon together right now.
