iFixit Teardown Reveals AirPods Max 2 Still Suffer From Poor Repairability
Overview
I took apart the new AirPods Max 2 and I found that Apple just used the old 2020 parts again. You will notice that the metal case looks exactly like the first version. I saw that the H2 chip is inside but the way it opens are still a huge pain for you.
Internal Upgrade
I noticed that Apple put an H2 chip in every earcup to give you better noise canceling. You get cool things like Live Translation and faster sound because of these new parts. I tried to reach the chip but the glue is so thick that you cannot get it out easily.
Repairability Issues
I found out that Apple still wont sell you the parts or the guides to fix them. Your charging port might break and you will have to buy a whole new headband because it is stuck with glue. I see that water in the air can still get inside and make the speakers fuzzy.
Repair Score
I see that the first model got a 6 out of 10 score and these new ones get the same grade. You can tell that the design stays the same because the internal layout never changed.
What Could Be Better
I think Apple should put these in the repair program so you can fix the battery. You would save so much money if the parts just clicked together like toys. I know that making the port easy to swap would stop a lot of waste.
Conclusion
I believe $549 is a lot of money to spend on a toy you cannot fix. You should know that these headphones are still a big gamble for your wallet. I will wait for a pair that is easy to open with a simple tool.
