Apple Rolls Out Fresh Firmware for iPad Pro and iPad Air Magic Keyboards
Generally, I think Apple did a good job with the new firmware for the Magic Keyboard that works with the newest iPad Pro and iPad Air, I noticed it right after I plugged my keyboard in and the iPad said it was updated, which was kinda cool.
What’s New in the Firmware?
Obviously, the update now gives each iPad line its own version number, so for the M4 and M5 iPad Pro, the firmware jumps to 1872.544.772, up from 0680.0220.0301, and the M3 iPad Air runs on 1024.320.771, which is a big change, Both 11‑inch and 13‑inch keyboards get the boost, I guess.
Why This Update Matters
Usually, firmware changes for the Magic Keyboard are rare, so this one stands out, I mean the last big overhaul came in May 2024 when Apple launched the M4 iPad Pro, that redesign added a row of function keys, a larger glass trackpad, and kept the floating cantilever design that holds the iPad steady while you type, it was a big deal.
Apparently, the new firmware doesn’t add hardware, but it probably fixes bugs, improves performance, and adds compatibility tweaks for the newest iPads, which is pretty important, You can expect a better experience, I think.
