Deus Ex: Invisible War Audio Director Reflects on Sequel’s Soundtrack and Development

Background

I ran the audio department for the 2003 sequel and I still dwell on it. Moving from a helper to the leader of the whole team felt like a giant step. You can read where I told PC Gamer we had room for improvement because honesty matters most.

Creative Choices

My wife then sang the main song and I called it amazing even if I was biased. We cut the 90s cyberpunk cheese to give you a sound that felt more grown up. I put in many melodic layers so the vibe stays dark for your play sessions.

Faction Audio Identity

You need to hear different sounds for each faction to know who is who. Cairo and Trier have their own music that changes the feel as you walk in. The band Kidneythieves brought a gritty mood and their singer played the role of NG Resonance.

Legacy and Reflection

Looking back I am still happy with the work despite the game having flaws. I would change things now but the core music stays strong for you to enjoy. Fans keep talking about the tunes which proves you can win even with mistakes.
