Google Maps Now Automatically Saves Your Parking Spot on iOS

Google Maps has introduced a convenient new feature for iOS users that automatically saves your parking location. This update, announced by Rio Akasaka, Google Maps’ senior product manager, aims to simplify the process of remembering where you parked your car.

How the Feature Works

The feature detects when you’ve parked your car and saves the location for up to 48 hours. When you start driving again, the parking pin is automatically removed. After parking, simply open Google Maps and you’ll see a pin marking your spot.

Connecting Your Phone

To enable automatic parking detection, connect your iPhone to your car via USB, Bluetooth, or CarPlay. Once the connection is established, Google Maps can sense when the vehicle stops and will save the location automatically.

Custom Car Icons

Instead of the generic “P” icon, the update now shows custom car icons for the parking spot. The feature, originally introduced in 2020, has been expanded with eight new car shapes and colors earlier this year, giving a more personalized look.

Availability

Currently, this automatic parking location saving is only available on iOS. Android users have a similar feature, but it requires manually removing the parking icon.

Why It Matters

The new feature is a welcome addition for iOS users, making it easier to remember where you parked your car. While Android offers a comparable tool, the iOS update delivers a more seamless, hands‑free experience.
