InXile’s Clockwork Revolution: A Bold Leap into First-Person Steampunk RPG

Generally, I am excited to see how InXile’s Clockwork Revolution will change the first-person RPG genre. Obviously, the studio is known for making isometric games like Wasteland 2, but now they are trying something new. Apparently, Brian Fargo thinks this game is “the most ambitious title, probably by a factor of 10”, and Honestly, I believe him.

Usually, I want games to have deep reactivity, and Clockwork Revolution promises to deliver that. Naturally, the game’s world will react to my every move, and I can be good or bad, which is a big deal. Essentially, if you can’t be bad, you never really have free will to be good, and that’s a pretty important concept. Sometimes, I feel like games don’t give me enough freedom, but Clockwork Revolution seems different.

A New Dimension for InXile

Obviously, InXile is taking a risk by switching to first-person, but I think it’s a good idea. Normally, I prefer first-person games because they feel more immersive, and I’m sure Clockwork Revolution will be the same. Already, I can imagine the world reacting to my every move, and it sounds amazing. Probably, the game will have a lot of depth, and I’m excited to explore it.

Player Agency

Generally, I love games that give me choices, even if they’re hard to make. InXile’s past games have taught me that choices have consequences, and I’m sure Clockwork Revolution will be the same. Usually, I feel like games don’t give me enough agency, but this one seems different. Apparently, the game will let me make my own decisions, and that’s a big deal.
