I’m Matt McConaughey & I Don’t Want AI Stealing My Face
Me, a Hollywood actor, i’ve done films and stuff, i just trademarked my look, voice, and expressions so AI can’t just use me without my say so. It’s kinda like, my face is my brand, you know?
Trademark Time, Baby!
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, they approved eight of my trademark applications, covering short videos and audio clips, like a porch video and a Christmas tree clip, and even my famous line “Alright alright alright!”
Why I Did It
I did it ’cause i want to be in control of how people use my image and voice, you know? I mean, in an email, i said “My team and I want to make sure my voice or likeness is used with my okay and clear credit given.”
Stopping AI Fakes
This is like, a proactive thing to do, to stop AI from making fake versions of me. My lawyers say these trademarks will help block apps or users from using my likeness and if needed, they’ll take it to federal court.
Industry Impact
The entertainment industry is dealing with AI misuse big time, like Tom Hanks and Taylor Swift, they’ve been hit by AI fakes. My move could set a precedent for other actors to protect their identities in the digital world.
Laws and Trademarks
There are already state laws in the U.S. that protect individuals from misuse of their image or likeness, but registering a trademark gives you more legal power, especially against AI-generated content that might not be used for money but still causes harm.
A Balanced View on AI
It’s worth noting that i’m not against AI, i actually worked with AI voice company ElevenLabs to release a Spanish version of my newsletter, that’s a balanced thing to do, you know?
Other AI Battles
There have been other legal battles in the entertainment industry over AI misuse, like the case of Bollywood singer Arijit Singh, he won a big case against a company that cloned his voice without permission, the court said his voice, name, image, and persona were protected.
Protecting Our Identities
As AI keeps advancing, protecting our identities gets harder, my move might inspire other celebrities to take similar steps to safeguard their likenesses and voices from misuse.
