MindsEye 2026 Revival: Can It Recover from Flop?
Generally, MindsEye is trying to make a comeback in 2026, which is kind of surprising considering all the controversy surrounding it. Obviously, you are wondering if their new roadmap will actually fix the problems that led to the 2025 flop or if it will just fall flat. Honestly, I am curious too, so let’s find out.
Normally, a game with this much baggage would not be able to recover, but you never know.
Apparently, the devs are really trying to turn things around, and we should give them a chance.
Hopefully, the new update will be what the game needs to succeed.
A Rocky Year for MindsEye
Basically, MindsEye had a really tough year, it was supposed to be a hit but the launch was a mess, lots of bugs and the gameplay was pretty bland. Personally, I saw the backlash happen really fast, and the devs were struggling to keep up, it was like they were in way over their heads. Initially, in January, there were reports that Build a Rocket Boy split from its original publisher, IO Interactive, and they scrapped the highly anticipated Hitman crossover, which was a big deal.
Naturally, IO Interactive’s branding was gone from the latest trailer, which confirmed the split, and that was a pretty big sign that something was wrong.
Usually, when a game loses its publisher, it’s not a good sign, but maybe this will be different.
Oddly enough, the drama did not stop there, co-CEO Mark Gerhard got into trouble after allegedly threatening a YouTuber over a video, it was a pretty big scandal.
Eventually, Leslie Benzies denied any allegations, but the damage was already done, and it’s still affecting the game today.
Currently, the game is still trying to recover from all the drama, and it’s not easy, the devs are trying to move forward, but it’s hard when there is so much controversy surrounding the game.
Mainly, the community is still skeptical, and they are waiting to see what the devs will do next, they want to know if the game can actually be fixed.
Sometimes, it seems like the devs are not listening to the community, and that’s a big problem, because without the community, the game will not survive.
Actually, the summer layoffs did not help, it was like the final nail in the coffin, but maybe the devs can still turn things around.
Maybe, just maybe, the game can still be saved, but it will take a lot of work, and the devs need to be willing to listen to the community.
A Fresh Start—or Another Misstep?
Recently, Build a Rocket Boy dropped Update 7, and they are calling it a “reset” for MindsEye, which is a pretty big deal, the patch is focusing on bug fixes, and the devs are saying it reflects community feedback, which is good to hear.
Obviously, the press release was all about the “new era” for the game, and they are hoping fans will notice, and maybe even come back to the game.
Generally, the update is a step in the right direction, but it’s not enough, the devs need to do more to win back the community.
Normally, when a game gets a new update, it’s a good thing, but in this case, it’s not that simple, the game has a lot of baggage, and it will take a lot to fix it.
Hopefully, the devs will keep working on the game, and maybe, just maybe, it will become the game it was meant to be.
Apparently, the 2026 roadmap is promising, it’s got a new expansion with end-game content, richer world exploration, and long-awaited multiplayer, which sounds pretty good, but we will have to wait and see if it’s actually any good.
Usually, when a game gets a new expansion, it’s a good thing, but in this case, it’s not that simple, the game has a lot of problems, and it will take a lot to fix them.
Maybe, the devs can actually pull it off, and the game will become something special, but it’s hard to say right now.

Naturally, it’s not going to be easy, but if the devs are willing to listen to the community, and actually fix the problems, then maybe, just maybe, the game can be saved.
A Comeback No One Asked For?
Sadly, MindsEye’s reputation took a hard hit, it landed on worst-games-of-2025 lists, which is not something to be proud of, and former and current staff voiced complaints about toxic culture, crunch, and botched layoffs, it was a pretty big scandal.
Obviously, nearly 100 employees signed an open letter demanding change, which deepened the stigma, and made it even harder for the game to recover.
Generally, when a game has this much controversy surrounding it, it’s hard to come back from that, but maybe, just maybe, the devs can actually turn things around.
Currently, Build a Rocket Boy is pushing forward with revival plans, which is pretty surprising, considering all the backlash, but maybe they know something we don’t.
Hopefully, the game can actually be fixed, and it will become something special, but it’s hard to say right now, and only time will tell.
Maybe, the gaming community is just curious, and they want to see if the game can actually be fixed, or if it will just prolong a flop, it’s like a car crash, you don’t want to look, but you can’t help yourself.
Normally, when a game has this much controversy surrounding it, it’s hard to come back from that, but maybe, just maybe, the devs can actually turn things around.
Apparently, the community is watching with cautious curiosity, waiting to see if this “new era” brings real improvement or just more hype, and it’s hard to blame them, considering all the problems the game has had.
Obviously, only time will tell if the game can actually be fixed, and it will become something special, but for now, we just have to wait and see.
