After spending eight months aboard the International Space Station (ISS), NASA astronaut Jonny Kim is set to return to Earth. Here’s how you can watch the exciting journey home.
Mission Details
Jonny Kim, along with Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritsky, will be traveling back to Earth on the Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft. This mission marks Kim’s first orbital adventure, while Ryzhikov is on his third trip to space.
During his 245-day mission, Kim orbited Earth 3,920 times and traveled nearly 104 million miles. While on the ISS, he shared fascinating insights into life in space, including a time-lapse of an aurora and the challenges of making sushi in microgravity.
Undocking and Landing
The undocking from the ISS is scheduled for Monday, December 8, at 8:41 p.m. ET. The journey home will involve traveling at a speed of 17,500 mph before slowing down as the spacecraft enters Earth’s atmosphere.
The Soyuz spacecraft is expected to land on the steppe of Kazakhstan, southeast of the city of Dzhezkazgan, at 12:04 a.m. on Tuesday.
How to Watch
You can watch NASA’s live coverage of the crew’s return on NASA+, Amazon Prime, and the space agency’s YouTube channel. Coverage of the undocking will begin at 8:15 p.m. ET on Monday, with coverage of the deorbit and landing starting at 10:30 p.m. ET.
Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the return of Jonny Kim and his crewmates as they complete their mission and head back to Earth.
