PlayStation Fans Threaten Marathon Boycott After Bluepoint Shutdown
Generally, PlayStation users are pretty upset about Sony closing Bluepoint Games, so they’re saying they wont buy Marathon.
Backlash erupts
Obviously, the news of Bluepoint shutting down was a big deal, and it made me think about how it would affect Marathon.
You can look at the comments on PlayStation’s tweet, and you’ll see alot of people are angry, some are even saying they wont support any game from PlayStation.
People wrote stuff like “I’m refunding my pre-order, wont support any game from PlayStation after this” and “This game is gonna flop”, it was pretty intense.
By the afternoon, the reply count was over 1,900, and it didnt seem like the anger was dying down.
Potential sales impact
Maybe the boycott wont be as effective as people think, because alot of gamers dont pay attention to the news.
I remember when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 came out, there was a big protest, but alot of people still bought the game on launch day.
Apparently, casual gamers might not even know about Bluepoint, so the boycott might not affect them as much.
It seems like Marathon still needs a strong community to be successful, despite the backlash.
Looking ahead
You have to consider that studio closures can affect alot of people, and it’s not just about the games they make.
I think if Sony and Bungie keep making good games, people will forget about the boycott.
They will probably judge Marathon based on its own quality, not on what happened to Bluepoint.
*The information above is based on what people are saying on social media, as of February 20, 2026, and we dont have any official sales data for Marathon yet.*
