Proton has unveiled Proton Sheets, a new web‑based spreadsheet application that prioritizes user privacy with end‑to‑end encryption. This tool is designed to provide a secure alternative to popular options like Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel.
Built‑In Encryption
With Proton Sheets, all user data—including filenames and metadata—is encrypted by default. Only the user can access their information, addressing concerns about data collection by major tech companies and the potential use of proprietary data for AI training.
Features & Collaboration
The application supports commonly used formulas, data‑visualization tools such as charts and graphs, and real‑time collaboration features. Users can import existing CSV and XLS files, which are automatically protected with encryption. Access controls let users manage who can view or edit their files.
Cross‑Platform Availability
Proton Sheets is accessible through web browsers and within the Proton Drive app. This launch completes Proton Drive’s suite of productivity tools, now including email, calendar, documents, and spreadsheets, all with built‑in encryption.
Product Vision
“Proton Sheets aims to provide users with control, security, and trust, free from hidden surveillance and invasive data mining,” said Anant Vijay Singh, head of product at Proton Drive, emphasizing the importance of data sovereignty and privacy.
