Solasta 2 Early Access Review: Refined, Tactical, and True to D&D

I played Solasta 2 recently and I saw that the game looks much better now. You should notice how the small changes make the fights feel much smoother. I found that the developers really fixed the clunky parts from the first game. The tactical play hits hard. I think you will like how each choice you make during a turn matter more than before.

Character Creation

I saw that the heroes do not have those weird long arms anymore. You might find the options a bit slim even though the faces look better. I struggled to make my team look different because the hair choices is quite low. I suggest you spend time on the stats since the numbers really count for your survival.

World Exploration

I moved across the new hex map and it felt much more like a real journey. I recommend you watch your rest meter since walking consumes a lot of energy. I encountered a timed quest that forced me to skip a long rest which was very stressful. You must plan your path carefully to avoid getting tired before a big fight.

Combat

I love how the ground level changes how you fight your enemies. You should shove monsters off of high rocks to win faster. I used a spell called Calm Emotions to stop a harpy from taking over my fighter’s brain. I had to pick between helping a giant or fighting some zombies during one big battle. These choices makes the game feel like a real tabletop session with friends.

Rules & Mechanics

I noticed the game uses the new 2024 D&D rules which adds effects like vexing to your sword hits. You can swap weapons easily now. I learned that shields might block your magic if you are not careful. I saw many old players getting mad because the holy symbol trick is gone. Use your weapon skills to control the map during every single turn.

Voice Acting & Writing

I heard Ben Starr and Devora Wilde speaking and they sound very professional. The words people say feel more natural than the first game. I did not cringe at the talking once during my five hours of play. You will enjoy how the story moves along without any boring parts.

Future Roadmap

I expect to see co-op mode and better crafting coming very soon. You still cannot change your character once the story starts which is a bummer. I suggest you keep an eye on the faction reputation system for more rewards later. The team plan to add higher levels so your heroes can become very strong.

Conclusion

I think this early version is a great pick if you love building strong teams. You will find a lot of joy in the way the dice rolls feel. Go get the game on Steam now so you can start your own quest today. I found that every single fight offer something new for your brain to solve.
