Sonos Play Portable Speaker Leak: Specs, Price, Release Date
What the Leak Revealed
Generally, I was browsing the internet and I saw a removed Best Buy page, it showed a new Sonos speaker called “Play”, the page vanished fast after a Reddit user posted a screenshot. Normally, the details would be forgotten but it stayed in my mind.
Obviously, it looks like a tiny version of the Move 2, hand-sized enough to fit in one palm, and the price tag read CAD $399.99, which seems like a lot of money to me.
Design & Build
Usually, the chassis feels sturdy yet compact, like a portable box you can toss in a bag, I think the finish is matte black, but the leak didn’t show any color options, which is kinda weird.
Interestingly, it has an aux input too, so you could plug in a vinyl player or any other wired source if you want, which is a nice feature to have.
Portability
Apparently, the speaker’s battery promises up to 24 hour of playtime, which is impressive for a device this size, some reviewers might say “24 hour” instead of “24-hour” but the meaning stays clear, I guess.
Connectivity
Currently, dual-mode connectivity is listed; Wi-Fi for the Sonos multi-room system (up to 32 devices) and Bluetooth 5.3 for direct streaming, which sounds like a good deal to me.
Evidently, AirPlay 2 support is also there, letting iPhone and Mac users play music straight from their devices while staying in sync with other AirPlay gear, which is a nice feature to have, I suppose.
Features
As a matter of fact, automatic Trueplay tuning adjusts the sound based on the room, so you get balanced audio whether it’s on a kitchen counter or a backpack strap, which is a pretty cool feature.
Notably, I like that it can work alone via Bluetooth or join an existing Sonos system through Wi-Fi – that flexibility feels new for Sonos, and it’s a good thing, I think.
Release Date & Pricing
According to the Best Buy page, the launch date is March 31, 2026, and the price is at CAD $399.99, which puts it squarely in the premium portable speaker market, it seems to me.
Essentially, even though Sonos hasn’t confirmed anything, the leaked info gives us a solid preview of what to expect, and that’s a good thing, I suppose.
What It Means for Sonos
Generally speaking, industry watchers think this leak shows Sonos moving beyond stationary home audio into truly mobile solutions, which is a big deal, I think.
In my opinion, if the rumors are true, the Play could bridge the gap between high-end home sound and on-the-go convenience, which would be a great thing for Sonos, and for consumers too.
Conclusion
Ultimately, I’m excited to see if Sonos will confirm the Play soon, and I hope they do, because it looks like a great product, from what I can tell.
Obviously, until then, we’ll keep an eye on announcements and hope the March 31, 2026 launch sticks, which is what we all want, I suppose.
