WhatsApp Lets New Group Members See Past Messages
WhatsApp adds group chat history sharing for new members
Generally, I think this new feature is really useful because it solves a big problem, Basically, when you add someone new to a group, they can now see some of the past messages. Normally, you would have to send them a bunch of screenshots or copy and paste old conversations, which is pretty annoying.
Usually, when you’re in a big group chat, it can get pretty confusing for new members, Because they only see messages from the moment they join, which can be confusing, Especially in family chats where there’s a lot going on.
How the feature works
Obviously, when you tap “Add participant,” a prompt will pop up, Asking you if you want to share past messages, You can pick anywhere from 25 to 100 messages, Which is pretty cool, I think.
Apparently, the chosen messages appear in the conversation just like any other message, Complete with timestamps and sender names, So it feels pretty natural, Like they were always there.
Honestly, I found it really handy, Because I can instantly give context, Without having to copy-paste or send screenshots, Which is a big plus.
Privacy remains intact
Fortunately, all forwarded history stays end-to-end encrypted, And only the person who added the new member can decide to share it, So your privacy is still safe.
Naturally, once shared, the rest of the group gets a notification, So everybody knows that older messages have been exposed, Which is good to know.
